EA’s team of professional engineers collaborates with our clients to solve and prevent problems associated with the design, operation, and maintenance of dams and reservoirs. Our solutions are geared towards protecting and maintaining the water supply so that the safety of those downstream remains secure.
Dam and Reservoir Design
EA specializes in the design and development of new dams and reservoirs. Our multidisciplinary design team meets our clients’ needs by managing projects from initial feasibility studies to construction oversight and final inspections. The EA team has prepared engineering designs and aided in contractor selection for the repairs or new construction on over 80 dams, diversion structures, spillways, and outlet works. In addition to preparing engineering plans and specifications, we also provide our clients with project management, funding procurement assistance, geotechnical and geological site investigations, cost estimations, and permitting assistance. EA provides new designs and support for earthen embankment dams, rock fill dams, concrete dams, roller compacted concrete (RCC) dams, outlets, and spillways. EA designs slurry walls, clay liners, and synthetic liners for reservoirs and gravel pits to meet project-specific client needs.
Dam and Reservoir Rehabilitation
EA provides rehabilitation services for existing dams and reservoirs. Our engineers have extensive experience designing improvements to existing reservoir sites and dam structures. A few highlighted services that our staff specialize in are reservoir site planning and investigations, dam and reservoir enlargement, reservoir liner repair, dam instrumentation design and monitoring, seepage investigations and rehabilitation, earthquake deformation analysis, and forensic investigations of dam and embankment failures.
Dam Safety and Inspection
Dams and reservoirs provide numerous benefits such as water supply, flood control, irrigation, and recreation but they also represent a risk to public safety and the nation’s infrastructure if not properly maintained. EA puts a high emphasis on reducing the risks associated with new and existing dams by offering inspections services, geotechnical and geological site investigations and assessments, risk assessments, breach inundation mapping, and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) preparation.
Water Conveyance Infrastructure
EA’s project team members have worked on and have personally conducted evaluations of over 20 dam embankments, spillways and outlet works in the last 10 years. EA has developed cost effective rehabilitation designs for embankments, spillways, and outlet works for a wide range of public and private clients. Our experience includes spillway designs and repairs using conventional riprap, concrete, and roller compacted concrete (RCC), feasibility studies (Level I and II), storage evaluations; alternatives, service life, and seepage analyses; conducted outlet works rehabilitation; and estimated maintenance and construction costs.
