Electrical Systems

EA’s areas of expertise include power evaluation and design, grounding, site power, instrumentation and control systems, and short circuit capacity calculations.  Our engineering design capabilities also include design of pumping control systems, motor controls, control loops, process flow, and SCADA system design, as well as arc flash studies and analyses.

EA’s professional engineers and senior designers have developed expertise during their substantial experience, with our lead Electrical Engineer having individual experience of over 30 years. Our senior staff have worked on systems ranging from 230 kV transmission lines to intrinsically safe 24 vdc control networks.

Electrical Power and Motor Control Design

EA’s staff of electrical professionals have been involved in numerous motor control center and power distribution system designs.  Designs have been prepared for systems powering full water and wastewater treatment plant systems to commercial building designs for offices and retail malls.  EA staff have designed multiple power systems for hazardous areas including oil refineries and compressed natural gas compressor and gas transportation systems. We have prepared electrical system designs for multiple water pumping and lift station systems for private and municipal clients.

Distribution Power System Design

EA’s staff has worked on industrial power systems to provide power system designs up to 15kV.  Designs have included the use of power distribution center buildings to provide relay and overcurrent protection for the incoming electrical facilities and distribute power throughout new or existing facilities. Design packages include one-line and layout drawings for power systems and designs and specifications for power distribution center building and all electrical equipment. EA has worked with clients to prepare complete bid documents and construction services to ensure a complete and operational project.

Substations

EA’s electrical staff have prepared designs for industrial and small utility substations for multiple clients. They have prepared designs including the ground grid system to specifications for power transformers and protection equipment. Designs have been for new facilities and existing systems that are expanding their process units.

Electrical Utilities

EA has provided design for industrial and electrical utilities including substation, and power line design. We have worked to prepare staking sheets for distribution line design and have prepared design standards for 5kV and 15kV overhead and underground facilities.

Electrical Inspections

EA’s professionals have experience inspecting power systems from the time of construction to existing build-out facilities. We have examined the facilities to ensure the construction plans were followed and assisted in preparing as-built of conduit and electrical systems. Inspection reports include examination of conduit and wiring systems, lighting standards, emergency lighting equipment, and testing and preparation of circuit schedules for panelboards.

Arc Flash and Electrical System Modeling

EA staff have prepared electrical system models in multiple modeling software platforms to perform short circuit, load flow, and arc flash studies. Work has been performed to prepare protective device studies for industrial facilities to determine fusing and breaker settings for new and existing facilities. EA professionals have worked with multiple clients to prepare arc flash studies and prepare and install the labels with the assistance of the client’s staff when requested.
