Water Treatment & Management

EA’s engineers, scientists, technicians, and operators have broad-based technical expertise in bench and pilot testing, permitting, project management, bidding assistance, procurement, and construction management.   EA's staff have started up, trained operators, and assisted in the operations of numerous systems through our tenure.  This experience from design through operations creates a continuous cycle of improvement in our system designs that can lower our client’s capital and operational costs.

Planning

EA is knowledgeable in water balance modeling and infrastructure sizing evaluations and has completed this work in many basins across the United States. With firsthand operational experience, EA understands these systems must be capable of handling both the short-term and long-term needs of production, flowback, reuse, and disposal without slowing production. EA’s experience includes field wide planning for both brownfield improvements and greenfield sites.

Produced Water Treatment, Chemical & Physical

EA has extensive experience in the treatment of produced water for reuse, disposal, and surface discharge. EA has provided our clients with system designs, project management, equipment procurement, start-up, and training services on 35 plus systems that range in size from 5,000 to 75,000 barrels per day.

Treatment Optimization and Upgrades

EA has experience in the treatment of produced water in many different basins across North America.  We are extremely knowledgeable in equipment selection and correct process design for gravity separation (gun barrel tanks, oil/water separators), chemical enhanced separation (surfactants, oxidizers, iron chelators), chemical/physical treatment (dissolved air flotation), and filtration (bag, back washable media), etc.  EA’s staff has the operational experience to increase hydrocarbon recovery and lower operational costs.

Pipeline Design and Upgrades

EA has designed, managed, and/or provided construction oversight on the installation of 100’s of miles of produced water pipelines. EA has sized, specified, routed, and overseen the installation of carbon steel, coated carbon steel, high density polyethylene (HDPE), FibersparTM, fiberglass, and FlexSteelTM piping materials.

Pump and Lift Station Design and Upgrades

EA has significant experience in pumping system designs and has installed numerous pumping stations for truck offloads, pipeline booster skids, produced water transfer, and supply for injection well facilities. These projects included prefabricated buildings, tanks, piping, truck connections, and dry/wet vaults with electrical and pressure controls and full automation.

Tank and Pond Storage Design and Upgrades

EA personnel have decades of experience providing storage solutions for our clients, including ponds, tanks, mobile tanks, and impoundments. With experience in the design, secondary containment, selection of materials, leak detection, etc., EA has helped its customer’s find the best option for their specific needs and locations. EA’s civil/structural group has experience in grading, ring wall design, tank design and structural review and has managed tank projects up to 220,000 barrels and ponds up to 750,000 barrels.

Salt Water Injection Wells Design and Upgrades

EA has designed new systems, replaced existing systems, and upgraded over 20 produced water injection facilities to date. We have consulted on systems that range from 5,000 to 20,000 barrels per day. EA’s facilities are tailored to our client’s gathering type, truck and/or piping, and are designed to maximize oil and condensate recovery while removing contaminants to protect the injection wellbore.

Permitting

The discharge of treated produced water to a water body is a complex permitting process known as a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting. EA has helped many companies navigate this process and has assisted in the development of quality assurance and quality control documentation.

Refinery Water Treatment Optimization and Upgrades

EA has decades of experience in oil water separation including knowledge of the correct installation and process design of oil/water separators, dissolver air flotation, dissolved nitrogen flotation, induced air flotation, and gravity separation. EA also has hands on experience in the optimization of these systems through changes in chemical types and addition locations, proper chemical mixing, calculation of dissolved gas quantities, and proper pumping hydraulics.

Structural Design

EA has structural design capabilities pertaining to concrete, masonry, steel, aluminum, and wood structures and foundations, water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping and lift stations, bridge construction and replacement, and soil structures including dams and embankments.
