Ground Stabilization

EA’s ground stabilization experience includes projects involving landslides, debris flows, post-fire debris flows, rockfalls, creep movement, erosion control, and bank stabilization. Additionally, EA can provide forensic investigation and litigation support services for ground stabilization projects. EA personnel have extensive experience with development and evaluation of mitigation design for all kinds of slope failure types.

Slope Failure Investigation

EA personnel are highly experienced in slope failure investigation and analysis. Field investigation expertise includes failure delineation, surface observation, geologic mapping, and determination of hydrophobic layers for post-fire debris flows. Subsurface investigations include drilling of subsurface borings, trenches/test pits, and utilization of geophysical methods.

Slope Failure Analysis and Monitoring

EA staff have completed numerous analyses for slope failure including slope stability, infiltration, seepage, unsaturated flow analyses, hydraulic modeling, and structural analyses to determine the cause of failure and to assess existing damage and anticipated future damage. EA has also implemented many monitoring programs using subsurface borings with piezometers and inclinometers to monitor water levels, water depth, type, and rate of movement.

Slope Stabilization Design and Construction Oversight

EA personnel have extensive experience in the design and evaluation of mitigation strategies for slope failures. EA’s work experience includes landslides, debris flows, post-fire debris flows, rockfalls, creep movement, erosion control, and bank stabilization. EA has also designed other components of the slope stabilization systems including horizontal drains, underdrains, French drains, and riprap. EA can also provide construction oversight during installation to ensure quality control and strict adherence to the specifications.

Retaining Walls

EA’s technical staff have completed slope stabilization design, specifications, and construction drawings for many types of walls including mechanically stabilized earth (MSE), tieback, soil nail, sheet pile, secant, anchored, gabion basket, Hilfiker, and gravity and cantilever walls.
